Surprises

To my surprise that there was a BBQ treat held by MSF after a yearly big volunteer activity. I guess most volunteer work is a one-time deal.

To my surprise also I joined the BBQ, not really knowing anyone there.

To my surprise again I indeed met a frontier doctor who had been serving for MSF in different countries.

Another surprise: Most MSF medical team comprises a doctor, a nurse and a project coordinator. Absolutely no backup for usually at least 6 months. Some doctors were killed. Some female doctors were raped during their mission.

Yet another surprise. I could speak English (again, finally!) for more than an hour. Together with 2 local MSF officers and the doctor, we went from topics about stories of the doctor to some philosophical, religious and social issues. Can I discuss such things with a few HongKongers?

Surpised that I left the gathering much later than I had expected.

Last but not least, I was surprisingly exhausted after the gathering.
